DesuRadio is an online radio station taking its name from the greatest meme most annoying meme ever, Desu. Originally created by a /b/tard named Spork in 2006 and run by a weeaboo called Neoific, it had a reputation of playing "random" music half the time, and being down the other half.

As of June 2008, after getting frustrated with months of intermittent downtime, a group of antsy faggots from Desuchan decided to revive DesuRadio. DesuRadio is now composed of two channels: DesuRadio and BokuRadio, both of which accomodate human DJs. The two channels are collectively known as DesuRadio, and are both based out of the official Desuchan IRC channel (irc.irchighway.net#desuchan). There is a dedicated IRC channel for radio (irc.irchighway.net#desu-radio) to avoid spamming the main channel with bot commands.

During a recent radio thread, the new DesuRadio hit a max of about 50 listeners; the previous incarnation was known to gather upwards of 150 listeners, with over 300 listeners connected at different times during its Labor Day weekend special.

[edit] DesuRadio

The main server. On its own, it's basically a glorified jukebox running off of Desuchan's server, and is controllable through IRC. This means you can queue up requests for any song in the playlist, which for some reason contains a SHITTON OF DEEP PURPLE. DesuRadio can also accept live DJs. It has the more robust connection of the two channels, making it ideal for broadcasting shows for large audiences such as /b/. The Icecast server and IRC bot (ph34r_v2) are administered by Weedy.

[edit] BokuRadio

Once considered the more "democratic" version of DesuRadio, this radio mostly accomodates DJs who sit around on IRC and play whatever shit they want. It has a laid-back, down-home feel. BokuRadio, being on a less robust connection, has a cap of 15 listeners to avoid it getting DDoS'd by 300 clients deciding to connect all at once. Plays the Gerudo Valley theme from Zelda: OoT when no DJ is connected. The Shoutcast server and IRC bot (BokuRadio) are administered by DrCirno.

[edit] DJs/Shows

Due to the natural exhibitionist streak in humanity, everyone and their dog wants to be able to show off their (mostly illegal) music collection on the internet. Most of the DJs on DesuRadio are Desuchan regulars, but refugees of the old Desu-Radio have been sighted on IRC lately and may end up staging comebacks at some point.

Times indicated here are not official showtimes, just times when each DJ is likely to be on. There are no official times for shows, but since DJs come from various parts of the globe, they tend to come on at different parts of the day to play (usually evenings local time), for a few hours at a time or until they have to go or they get booted off. Times are listed in GMT (subtract 5 for EST, 8 for PST, etc, etc).

Once upon a time, in its previous life, DesuRadio could get about 50 listeners online at any given time—upwards of 150 listeners if there was a thread going in /b/. However, several events happening in the space of a few months at the end of 2006 led to its sharp decline:

  • The IRC channel was moved to purplesurge, which is DEAD compared to Rizon. In return, Neoific received $20 every month for the site from the admins of purplesurge.
  • The server, located in France, home of the French, exploded because too many Americans were torrenting pirated shit with it.
  • Even after the server returned, it was fuxxored, creating massive lag and buffer problems for non-Eurofag listeners, rendering the music virtually unlistenable.
  • Neoific bought a new server, located in Texas, and set icecast up on it. He also forgot to give plus_M, his lackey, the root pass being the clumsy dumbfuck he is, so no site or uploads directory could be put on it. Listeners were pissed off to the point they didn't want to give a fuck anymore, since www.desu-radio.com still said "no dj onair" because it was still in France, home of the French if you still don't know.
  • In January, #desu-radio returned to Rizon.
  • The French server died for good (but unfortunately not the French), taking the site and the uploads page with it. By this time, most DJs had already left.

[edit] Previous DJs

The following people DJ'd on the previous edition of DesuRadio:

  • Onion: The most popular DJ on Desu-Radio, which wasn't much of an achievement. DJs for /a/radio now.
  • Walkman: Played requests almost exclusively, but also had a large and varied music collection.
  • Sarafan: Played 4chan music. Streamed the audiobooks of A Hitchhikers Guide to the Galaxy once.
  • jfs: A Limey weeaboo DJ.
  • OceanSpray: Known for playing jazz, classical and various classic rock albums during the graveyard shift when nobody and we do mean nobody listens to the radio. Also DJs occasionally for /b/radio under the name Lemon.
  • Aguro: An Australian weeaboo DJ (see jfs, and read it upside down). DJs for /a/radio now.
  • Exodus: Alternated weeaboo with non-weeaboo songs. (Who in sodomy described this DJ?)
  • |7|: Also a dirty Limey. Played Classical, Movie Soundtracks, Electro, House and the occasional Video game music. Had a tendency to voicewhore or/and waste bandwidth by broadcasting silence, butchered songs, or by playing video games whilst DJing, usually ending up in other DJs and the audience developing splitting headaches and screaming at him to get off air. (also infamous ironically for screaming "Desu-Radio Sucks" multiple times and taunting the other DJs in his godawful Limey accent for several hours on end one afternoon whilst DJing for /b/radio seeing as he was quite possibly a Swede in disguise and also DJ'd for then-internet radio rivals /b/radio, lol run-on sentence). Despite being known as a DJ for Desu-Radio, he appeared in the chatroom sporadically and got on air only around half a dozen times, of which most times were to broadcast earrape, noise and other nausea inducing sound effects. Despite the DJ attempting to piss into an ocean of piss without an audience, he remains one of the more well known DJs of Desu-Radio which says a lot about the previous radio's final moments of existance.
