Fursona

The animal "alter ego" of a furry, a Fursona is usually far less obese than their real-life form. The word is a portmanteau of "furry" and "persona".
When bored, many furries will draw their fursona and post it on a message board with a caption such as 'l0l mY fuRs0nA 2 yifF mssg me k!'.
A fursona will almost always be a wolf, a dragon, or a fox. No, srsly, like 90% of them are wolves or foxes. Good luck finding a vulture or a beetle.
The Furluminati will claim that a fursona is the personality of its creator, just in anthro form. Of course, this is a crock of shit as every furry is more or less an overweight, middle-aged, balding man with Cheeto stains over his thighs, whereas their fursona will be a brave wolf which can shoot fire out of his nipples or some dumb furry shit.

How to Spot a Fursona
UPDATE: There ARE girls on the internets, they were just formerly men. More recent picture updated to reflect such.
There are three basic types of Fursonas:
- Anthro Fursonas which look like the furries we know and loathe
- Animal Fursonas which are just totally gay animals
- Comicsonas which aren't necessarily furry, but belong here for their related faggotry anyway.
In lieu of an image to tip you off as to what type of fursona it is, it's probably a fursona if their user name has an animal name in it. If it is, you can suspect them of being a furry — unless it has a word like "kill" in front of it, such as killhamster, who fights against furries.
Make no mistakes! Sometimes a user will have an animal in their name which they've been using for a while, since before the furries took over. Do not call Blu Aardvark or SchmuckyTheCat furries; they are clearly not furries, as they are ED sysops, and furries are banned from being sysops.
Anthro Fursona
Anthro Fursonas are basically otherwise-human creatures with animal heads, skin, and tails. Oh, and giant penises and tits, sometimes on the same creature.
It still counts as an Anthro Fursona if the fursona is a centaur, especially if it's a hermaphrodite chakat. Furries love fuzzy boobies, apparently.

Another way to spot a fursona is if they have an animal avatar. The typical animal chosen is a wolf, probably because they probably watched Balto a few too many times or an arctic fox because it makes them uneeq. Expect loads of shitty ugly colours blended together which never appear on said animal IRL. These furfags are 90 percent female (since any furfag male involved would make bestiality porn) and therefore are often weeaboo and emo. Therefore Naruto headbands, bird/bat wings, horns, clothing, cutting scars and emo bangs usually appear on these animals for no explicable reason. If the fursona is silver or white colored, and has light blue or purple eyes, the creator is most of the times either a Nigger or a Mexican.
These things can be just as ugly (if not uglier than) Anthro Fursonas, because at least on the Anthro Fursonas we have nice tits to look at. All these furfags have are big fluffy tails.
Example Animal Fursonas
Comicsona
While not necessarily furry, often an aspiring webcomic artist will draw themselves into their comic, often as the star of their comic, effectively turning the comic into a glorified blog.
They pretty much are the same thing though, in that the Comicsona looks far better than the actual artist.
The idea behind these "human fursonas" is pure wish fulfillment.
