Friedrich Nietzsche, a poor bastard who is currently having his old, dead bones spun by goths, emo kids, and other faggots the world over. If you begin seeing Nietzsche quotes on someone's livejournal where once there were none, I hope you have a damn good reason to be reading such a flamingly bad LJ. Nonetheless, here are the most common reasons why these quotes have begun appearing.

  1. The LJer stumbled onto some of Freddy's work after accidentally entering a library. They only went inside to avoid a non-emotional raincloud that would cause issues with their mascara, shitty hair dye, or fake tattoos.
  2. They found his work misplaced in the Occult section of a bookstore where they were trying to figure out how to put a curse on someone because they're too much of a pussy to just use violence.
  3. Some queer band referenced Fred in one of their musical poutfests and so Nietzsche must be teh coolest evar!!!@!@%!
  4. Same as above but instead of a band, they're copying another LJ user, since they can't even find someone actually famous to emulate.

No one who quotes Nietzsche actually understands what he meant or has actually read any of his writings, because who has time to read old media when you have to post about how your boyfriend totally doesn't understand you. But like OMG this Nietzsche guy totally knows where I'm coming from. It's like we're totally kindred spirits.

Some think that if Nietzsche were alive today he'd actually be the gothest, most emo-est LJer on the e-block. But I and Nietzsche himself disagree. Quoting from Thus Spoke Zarathustra - The Preachers of death:

They have not yet become men, those terrible ones: may they preach renunciation of life, and pass away themselves! There are the spiritually consumptive ones: hardly are they born when they begin to die, and long for doctrines of weariness and renunciation. They would rather be dead, and we should welcome their wish! Let us beware of awakening those dead ones, and of damaging those living coffins! They meet an invalid, or an old man, or a corpse- and immediately they say: "Life is refuted!" But only they are refuted, and their eye, which sees only one facet of existence.
