Talk:Bipolar disorder
From Encyclopedia Dramatica
I'm pretty sure there is no such thing as "Bipolar emotional disorder." Czech your DSM-IV TR, folkz.
Also, the Winona's character in Girl, Interrupted was diagnosed with Borderline Personality Disorder which is Axis II not Axis I OMGLOL!
BPD (as it's known to the leets) is known for being way overdiagnosed back in the day (similar to schizophrenia and other schizoid [not talking about schizoid personality disorder here, you aspie fgt] disorders in the 60s, right after Thorazine was released as a "chemical straitjacket"). The patients who are dx'd (a little medical jargon there) with BPD are usually women and present with symptoms quite similar to Bipolar Disorder (I/II): ie emotional lability, histrionic behavior, etc., but they usually lack what we call the "oomph" or "zazz" of Bipolar Disorder (there are many who have comorbid BP/BPD diagnoses--it is not unusual for psychologists and psychiatrists to add some spice to Axis I disorders with a savoury Axis II personality code).
BPD was popular when the tricyclics were big because tricyclics are potent histamine antagonists and cause sedation and some degree of anxiolysis as well as moderate cognitive dampening (they cause the patient to be tired and stupid -- score!!). They are somewhat similar in structure to the older phenothiazine antipsychotics (neuroleptic is the new PC term) but lack the whole dopamine antagonism thing which means they don't cause extrapyrimidal side-effects or tardive dyskinesia and do not provide doctors with the endless hilarity of the patented Thorazine Shuffle.
Oh... anyway, BPD = whole different set of rich bitches.

- iawtc. What is the deal with all these dorks all of the sudden who think they're 1337 because they know OMGPSYCHOPATHOLOGY? It didn't make you cool in college, and it's not going to make you cool on the Internets. It wasn't funny then and it's not funny now. Jesus wept, people, get a feel for how this site works before making yourself look like a pretentious ass. Lots of people here know a whole lot about many of these subjects, but we don't let that stop us from acting like immature misinformed retards and neither should you.--Buffy the Apostrophe Slayer (talk) 18:29, 12 Aug 2005 (UTC)

Seriously people, do some fucking research before you write about something you have no idea about. There's no such thing as "bipolar personality disorder," and people with BORDERLINE personality disorder (TOTALLY different axis II diagnosis than bipolar disorder) are the ones traditionally known as being prone to cutting, although people with any disorder can be cutters.
- Is there lulz in research? ~ Banaan 17:32, 18 Sep 2005 (UTC)
- No, but there is much status in being a 1337 Internet Psychologist. How many fucktards have we had come in here and get all DSM-IV on us thinking it makes them look cool? It is lame and old.--Buffy the Apostrophe Slayer (talk) 17:45, 18 Sep 2005 (UTC)
Angelina Jolie was not Bipolar in Girl, Interrupted. Bipolar wasn't even mentioned in that movie at all. Angelina Jolie was a Sociopath, and Winona Rider had Borderline Personality Disorder, which is definitely NOT bipolar. At all.
- In the time period the movie/book was supposed to take place Bipolar Disorder hadn't even been
inventeddiscovered yet.--Turtlethemyrtle 22:54, 14 June 2008 (CDT)
