Vocaloid is a program made by Yamaha that lets people make their own music by entering in a tune and lyrics. While the very first products were released in 2004, the most well-known character, Miku Hatsune, was released in the middle of 2007. The super-kawaii animu qualities of the newer Vocaloid mascots propelled their popularity with... well, guess.

Vocaloid Characters

The English-Speaking Vocaloids

The English-speaking Vocaloids include Leon, Lola, Big Al, Miriam, Sweet Ann, and Prima. However, since their animu depictions are fan-made and since they cannot speak Japanese, nobody really gives a flying fuck about them. Except the die-hards.

Miku Hatsune

Miku Hatsune (Hatsune Miku if you're a Jap) is by far the most famous Vocaloid character. She is a 16 year old girl with teal-colored pigtails and some school uniform-inspired outfit. Her voice was fine-tuned for singing obnoxious Jpop songs that plague animu. Before she was created, nobody really gave a flying rat's ass about Vocaloid, but with the release of Miku, and the use of a Japanese-based YouTube called "Nico Nico Douga," Vocaloid became hit on the Internets. She even has her own version of Leekspin.

Rin and Len Kagamine

THEY'RE "TWINS" BOTH OF THEM.

Gakupo Kamui

Gackt as a Vocaloid (really.)

Megurine Luka

Big-breasted bilingual pink-haired tsundere singer.
