Congratulations on joining ED! You probably fit into one of these categories:

1. New User
Before making your first article look over ED:101. Try checking out random articles and fixing typos, grammar and/or bullshit where you find them before trying to make a new page. To start with, make multiple small edits to different articles until you have the hang of it. If you don't, it is unlikely that your article will survive for more than sixty seconds and you risk being molested by ED Sysops.
If you don't know anything about wiki formatting and code, please read ED:BASIC and the Style Guide. Take your time and start slowly.


2. Mediawiki Migrant If you're an experienced wiki user (probably from a Wikipedia offshoot) who knows how to operate, please read ED:101 for offical policy and ED:MIGRANT for tips on assimilation and basic rules.


Whichever you are, to successfully contribute to ED, please take some time to look around, note why other people get banned and don't act like they did.


Communication with other users prevents misunderstandings and can be done through talk pages, TJC and the mailing list.

Dude I was readin up on the biggest nigger of all time, Flava Flav, when I saw a link to some obscure character from Homestar Runner. They have an article on every obscure character from that show with none of them having any sources verifying outside of the site, and ED has nearly 3x the reach of homestarrunner.com and our main site doesn't even have an article.

By visiting WR, I was finally able to suss out exactly what is going on in the article ... it is just very difficult slogging if you aren't familiar with the individuals responsible for the whole story. If I don't become distracted, I will attempt to aid your quest to have the story told.

As an aside, I observed some general confusion on WR along the lines of not understanding that ED isn't meant to represent NPOV, or even be factual. ED catalogs things related to the internet, which includes an insane amount of drama, shocking images (hello, no_niggers.jpg is about as offensive as anything could possibly be), memes, and people being meanspirited.
Finally, why won't WR accept a yahoo.com email address for registration? KEKEKETalk to me Listen to me. 18:10, 24 August 2007 (CDT)
Ask them why they reply via gmail (that offers no x-sender IPs of their locale), while requiring ISP email from members. Looks more like a datamining operation than vetting, since any 2 bit admin knows IPs can be had anywhere (and they knew darn right no one from my locale ever posted there -- heck, if there's 10 editing on Wikipedia it would be news). People type in "Wikipedia sucks" in a search engine will be referred to WR, and it doesn't take brain science to figure that is how someone not connected with any of this crap can register there. Known paranoid sites, but WR goes to the next level bordering the KGB. Like the world is going to crash and burn WR. Looking over your talkpage, I've noticed that your contribs seem to be much maligned by the other users. Without sounding too uppity, because honestly my writing pales in comparison to quite a few other users, I'd like to give you some advice as to how to go about approaching an ED article that doesn't suck:

  • Please try to keep it short and sweet, because overdoing a joke kills the hell out of an article.
  • Try to follow the same sort of formula you'd use if approaching, say, a TOW article. Just replace the serious biz with funny and you have a ready-made approach. It's hard to go wrong following a standard formula for writing.
  • Non-sequiturs and opening an article with stupid questions seriously suck ass. Don't do it.
