Congratulations on joining ED! You probably fit into one of these categories:

1. New User

Before making your first article look over ED:101. Try checking out random articles and fixing typos, grammar and/or bullshit where you find them before trying to make a new page. To start with, make multiple small edits to different articles until you have the hang of it. If you don't, it is unlikely that your article will survive for more than sixty seconds and you risk being molested by ED Sysops.

If you don't know anything about wiki formatting and code, please read ED:BASIC and the Style Guide. To start you off:

• Sign your comments using four tildes (like this ~~~~)
• To answer a message, reply on the user's talk page.
• These are the sysops. If you have a problem, talk to them.

These tips will hopefully prevent you from getting raeped by the ED admins.

2. Mediawiki Migrant If you're an experienced wiki user (probably from a Wikipedia offshoot) who knows how to operate, please read ED:101 for offical policy and ED:MIGRANT for tips on assimilation and basic rules.

Whichever you are, to successfully contribute to ED, please take some time to look around, note why other people get banned and don't act like they did.

Communication with other users prevents misunderstandings and can be done through talk pages, TJC and the mailing list and ED IRC. If you need an admin, the list of active ED Sysops will let you know who's around. To chat with or to ask for help from other ED users, then please hit up the experts in #wiki on our IRC.

• Arrested on a felony 422 (making criminal threats) warrant filed by a COS fag who told LAPD that I threatened to kill him. I was only in for about 10 hours (in a Versace suit, in a holding cell full of Latino ganbangers in wifebeaters) before I made bail. I found a bond company to cover the $50,000 bail just before they were gonna put us on a bus to the county jail fro the w/end. Once there, I would have had to wait 3 days to appear before a judge and have a bail hearing.

tl;dr? Don't get arrested on a w/end. And if you think there's a chance that you 'are' gonna get arrested, bring a sweatshirt when you leave the house; it was freezing in there.

I saw what you posted on Yirimyah's talk page, and I'd just like to say I agree with you completely. I feel that he overstepped his boundaries by about half a mile in deleting all of those articles. I would just wait it out and see what happens, but if those articles aren't restored soon, I'll try to get a sysop to restore them. I just thought I'd say something, as it's nice to see someone who feels the same way as I do about all of this. Also, I just took a look at your Amy Winehouse article. Good job! That should probably be moved over to a real article, but again, it might be better to wait out all this "improvement drive" stuff first.

• I agree completely. We have a goal to prune categories like gaming and anime that have a lot of bad articles, but by no means do want to wipe out entire categories. What happened this morning was, as I understand, a misunderstanding that is hopefully rectified now. Just so you're aware, I'll be sending out messages to the Users list about series improvement drives. The procedure I want to take is to notify people of articles that will probably be deleted and make the offer to move it to their userspace so they can work on it, and we can bring it back later, like we did with Amy Winehouse in your case. I hadn't really considered sending out a message making that offer before you spoke up last time, but I'm glad you did because it helped me improve that process. We (the sysops collectively) killed it originally because it was too long and basically mindless racism with no humor value. It honestly was an embarassment to the site and we didn't want people thinking that was what ED is about. That article was the reason we added "ED is not Hitler's Uncyclopedia" to the list on ED:NOT. We attemped to bring it back several times and, each time, someone would revert back to the long, unfunny version. We all got annoyed with it enough that we just said fuck it and protect it rather than reverting it every 15 minutes. However, we put the offer out on the list that if anyone wanted to rewrite it and make it good, funny, and internet relevant, that we'd gladly put their changes on the page. If it makes you feel any better, I think the white people page is also a giant piece of shit and doesn't really belong, but there is continuous drama over deletions so it's been left alone. First Day on the Job

I took a peek at the logs and I think you're doing a great job so far. The only rule I can give you as far as deletes go is that if something is older than you and you're not sure what it is, check with someone like ODB or even weev if it's before ODB's time. Of the active sysops, I think that weev is the only one that's been here from the very beginning. As far as blocks go, you're doing great there, too. If you spend any time watching Recent Changes during the week you build up quite a kill count. The suggested block durations I have on ED:RC are my preferences - but as you can tell, I'm one of the most lenient sysops unless we're in the middle of a big vandalism spree or I wake up to see that someone called me a fag on my talk page :)

One thing you wouldn't know since you just got on the list - by default SecurityBot blocks for 1 day just in case the block was in error. The heuristics are set so conservatively that this is unlikely, but I wanted to be safe. Most people it blocks deserve a lot more so if you see it block someone before you get them, feel free to unblock and reblock for a longer duration.

TLDR version: You're doing a great job so far and I'm really happy you're on the team. Your recent articles are evidence that you know 100% what ED is about and should be about. Wield your hammer as you will and if there's a problem, we'll give you a heads up. Feel free to ask here or on the list if you need a hand with anything. If you want to try your hand at any of the featured content (AOTN, POTN, etc.), let me know, and I'll put something together for you quick. White•Mystery

I would personally leave it in the main namespace if I'd run into it by chance and I think that since you have aspirations to improve it, it should definitely stay there. Now that's not to say that you shouldn't snag a copy for yourself in case someone comes along and flushes it, but if you don't mind working on it in the company of others, I'd leave it where it is. If the fanbase of the show is anything like Dr. Phil or Jerry Springer over here, the forums or anything else online related to the show is probably a festering pile of shit ripe with drama, and perfect for an article! • Also, don't go deletion crazy. Your basic M.O. should be to forget about the old fail and concentrate on incoming fail. We've had much discussion about this over the last year and the consensus was that trying to 'fix' ED and purge everything that has little-to-no Internets is like trying to clean the pigeon shit from Trafalgar Square with a Q-Tip.

Well written stuff like Gorillaz can stand because it loosely fits with all our Anniemay and the band have traditionally been very active online. It is also better to rewrite or add Internets to older crappy or Internets light articles (like Scotland) than delete them.

Also, always check the edit histories of articles to see if the legends of ED (like GV, ghettofinger, weev, Hardvice, Quasidan etc) started or contributed them. Other articles, like Potty Pete are pet projects of certain Sysops or EDiots with tenure. Even if they have zero Internets, deleting another Sysop's work is bad form.

Apart from that, don't bug Weev with deletion stuff. Weev, by and large, doesn't care for deletion sprees and has better things to do (like keeping ED online). Feel free to bug me on old and new alike. TFO and Sheneequa (when she gets back) are also good for advice.

tl;dr? Don't delete stuff that predates your banhammer. If you want to propose deletions, make a list and run them by me and/or the admin list (when you get on it) for approval. --OldDirtyBtard • WUT? 14:09, 26 April 2008 (CDT)

Good job protecting Fbr trash. Practically every edit that article receives is either vandalism or just unfunny bullshit. However, I think you may have left some of that recent string of vandalism intact. The article is ~27,000 kb right now, and before today's vandalism started, it was ~37,000 kb. I think this edit might be the last decent version. Also, there's a random section inserted at the bottom of the article; it says simply ==NO U==. It's been there for a while, but I didn't notice it until just now. Anyway, I just thought you should know.

Well...that pic was from about a year ago and I think all the CO$ bullshit put about 10 years on me but, yeah, I can still pass for late 20s to mid 30s depending on the age of the girl I'm hitting on. As for your performance as a Sysop, no complaints here mate. You're doing a heckavu job Brownie. I just saw that you were looking sideways at Gorillaz and wanted to nip another deletion rampage in the bud. We just had one that got a bit nasty and WhiteMystery did a lot of pruning of [[Category:Music]] (after running it by the admin list) while I was gone.

Rickroll

Hi, just thought I'd give you something to do with your new sysop powers. Could you please protect Rickroll? The reasoning for this is over a completely pointless edit war (as usual) involving the scaryroll video. That one asshole who always spams that youtube account freezer bullshit keeps changing the video to his version, which can be viewedhere. The other version, [1], is the oldest scaryroll on youtube and is apparently the original one, as it's made by the original user. If you look through the edit history of rickroll, you'll see that the last 20 or 30 edits have just been pointless faggotry. Protecting this article would also put a stop to all of the people who constantly try to add embedded videos of their shitty parodies. I think the article's pretty good in its present state and really doesn't need any more shitty edits messing it up. The user who keeps reverting to his version of the scaryroll seems to have a ton of accounts, so I wouldn't worry too much about banning him. He seems relatively harmless, except that he keeps spamming up RC with this pointless revert war. Right now, it seems to be on the correct version of the page. If you do decide to protect it, make sure it's a version with the correct embedded scaryroll video.

How to AOTN

I saw your comment on tfo's talk page about front paging content. I don't know if anyone explained the process to you, but I figured I ought to since you've been writing so many good articles.

1. Go to ED:AON and make sure the article hasn't been featured recently.
2. Go to ED:AOTN and find the next two open days, since AOTNs run for two days.
3. Open up the links on those available days in other tabs.
4. Follow the link at the top of ED:AOTN that takes you to ED:AotN/Instructions.
5. Copy the ArticleNow template code to one of the blank pages.
6. Change all of the information, picture, sizing, summary and (most important) date.
7. Preview and save.
8. Copy the info to the other blank page, change the date to whatever it is.
9. Save.
10. Update ED:AON with the name and first day's date of the article you just posted.

If it's urgent that an article gets front paged (like tfo putting Sceptre on the front page because he decided to start shit), you should do what tfo did and move the existing AOTN to the next two free days. They're a pain to set up so it's nice to save as many that have been completed as possible.

As a compromise

I added ED to Wikipedia's article "shock site", as it's been cited by various sources as a shock site. ED definitely does deserve a mention of some form or another in Wikipedia even if it doesn't deserve an article, and hopefully this will be acceptable. I don't like how some editors (e.g. Sceptre) want to pretend that ED doesn't even exist just because it offends them, and I'm expecting them to try to remove it. Sceptre even tried to remove the mention of ED from the article "internet privacy" (See here). I noticed that earlier and was really impressed. Seeing your post on UR's talk page reminded me to send a note out to the admins' list about it. It's not what we had planned, but if it works, it works, and I think that's what counts. I lurk around their bot creators boards in case anything interesting comes up (protip: it doesn't) that might help us here, but I happened upon the deletion review and was shocked. They are quite correct that it will be hard to prevent that article from becoming a target of trolls and idiots and I doubt they'll trust anyone who's an established editor here to keep an eye on it. If you delete a long-standing article -like Al Qaeda- first of all consider a rewrite. If not, either look at Special:Whatlinkshere/Al Qaeda and see how many red links you're gonna leave and/or redirect the page (as I just did to OBL) and let MysteryBot fix the double redirects. I was thinking about making a page called 'Porn 2.0' that would cover a lot of the main hosting sites of steaming porn.
