Congratulations on joining ED! You probably fit into one of these categories:
- 1. New User
- Before making your first article look over ED:101. Try checking out random articles and fixing typos, grammar and/or bullshit where you find them before trying to make a new page. To start with, make multiple small edits to different articles until you have the hang of it. If you don't, it is unlikely that your article will survive for more than sixty seconds and you risk being molested by ED Sysops.
- If you don't know anything about wiki formatting and code, please read ED:BASIC and the Style Guide. Take your time and start slowly.
- 2. Mediawiki Migrant If you're an experienced wiki user (probably from a Wikipedia offshoot) who knows how to operate, please read ED:101 for offical policy and ED:MIGRANT for tips on assimilation and basic rules.
Whichever you are, to successfully contribute to ED, please take some time to look around, note why other people get banned and don't act like they did.
Communication with other users prevents misunderstandings and can be done through talk pages, TJC and the mailing list.

That's actually a good point. Front page articles mostly need to be interesting, but not necessarily encyclopedia quality. I'd say a few more good pictures and maybe a little more on the various accounts of drama - maybe screenshots of the game or forums showing the item. White ♥ Mistress 13:30, 10 June 2008 (CDT)

Hey, you've made an article about Call of Duty 4 that, unfortunately, doesn't meet our current standards. Please keep working on it here. Once you have worked on it, contact a sysop to see if you've improved it enough. If you don't know what to do, here are some tips:
- Do not recreate your article in the main namespace. Work on it here.
- Read ED:LULZ, ED:101, and ED:RR.
- Make it long enough to be worth reading (a few paragraphs, at least).
- Use headings and insert images.
- Link to a few sources. We appreciate embellishments, but frown on outright fabrications.

Hey, I saw what you've got there, and I think I can make a decent contribution to your "codd four" article. If we write this the right way, I think it can end up quite satisfactory.
...Unfortunately, I was once addicted to this amazing multiplayer experience, so I'd know what I'm talking about.
After we go through a good portion of editing, I'll ask Mystery or DCY to move it.

As of now i'm spoofing the gamespot merits to my own liking and trying to get them up the way i want...

Firstly, when you're talking with someone on ED, leave your reply on that person's Talk Page, not your own. Secondly, the edit that I'm working on right now crosses out everything that you had originally written and also features a Spoiler template at the top. The images look excellent! Try narrowing it down to three or four and put them in a non-collapsible section called "Awards" (or something) at the bottom. I'm gonna go add moar to the multi and single player sections. I have a screenshot of myself on the scoreboard after pwning...want me to upload it and stick it in? - It needs some work in a few areas. First, the collapsing objects are broken. Take a look at Encyclopedia Dramatica:Collapsing Objects to fix that. Second, it needs less goofy humor like the nazi thing and more factual accounts of internet drama. Maybe server drama, hacking drama if there is any, that sort of things. - Well we loev grammar nazis =) We have a few very active users who do this already but more are always appreciated. Doing this is a big job though, and invariably takes a lot of time. If you're looking for additional responsibilities as a user, we can always use help with the Portals. If you have any knowledge of any of our Portals, ie. LJ, Furfaggotry, TOW etc., we can always use a hand with maintenance. If you're interested in any of those responsibilities that could seg into Portal czar if you're interested, but it's a lot of work and you need to know a lot about the subjects.

- lol i should have been a bit clearer. Maintenance tasks only require basic wiki knowledge and you wouldn't be working on the main page or with code. You'd be keeping the portal subpages up to date, ie. departments, user/article lists, and eventually selecting and setting up featured articles. As for cleaning up/improving shitty articles, that's always a good thing. If you check out our new pages you'll always find articles that are lacking, or others that are good but just need some tweaking. If you familiarize yourself with the site a bit more you'll be able to better help with this. For example, if you give ED:101 a read and go through the templates list that will help you familiarize yourself.

- The races section looks promising. Obviously, it's not done yet, but it seems all right. One thing I'd like to add to it is a real-life comparison to the character classes; like, their real world counterparts. I remember a thread on /v/ a while back where we were trying to match the classes to IRL races. I think we came up with Imperials->Americans, Bretons->Europeans, Redguards->Blacks (literally), Argonians->Blacks (figuratively), Altmer->Jews, Orcs->Africans, Bosmer->Asians, Nords->Russians, Dunmer->Arabs, and Khajiit->Furries. At least that's what I think the general consensus was. Also, I'm just about to add the CRIMINAL SCUM section and external links, then I'm done. I went ahead and finished up the Oblivion article. Tell me what you think. Also, where did you get those pics of the character classes? I couldn't find them on google images, so I went with different ones for the Redguards, Orcs, and Nords.
