THIS IS SERIOUS; READ IT.

Congratulations on joining ED! You probably fit into one of these categories:

1. New User
Before making your first article look over ED:101. Try checking out random articles and fixing typos, grammar and/or bullshit where you find them before trying to make a new page. To start with, make multiple small edits to different articles until you have the hang of it. If you don't, it is unlikely that your article will survive for more than sixty seconds and you risk being molested by ED Sysops.
If you don't know anything about wiki formatting and code, please read ED:BASIC and the Style Guide. Take your time and start slowly.


2. Mediawiki Migrant If you're an experienced wiki user (probably from a Wikipedia offshoot) who knows how to operate, please read ED:101 for offical policy and ED:MIGRANT for tips on assimilation and basic rules.

  • Well, off the top of my head: blanking content, vandalizing articles, abusing sockpuppet accounts (if you use them for good, we don't care; if you use them to evade a ban, that's bad), posting anything illegal in the US such as child porn or bestiality, or generally faggotry like not listening when a sysop repeatedly asks you to not do something. However, I can sum all that up in one rule: don't be a dick. Depite the number of people that get banned, it's actually pretty hard to do something worthy of a ban unless you're really trying to be a dick on purpose. White•Mystery
  • I recall several pages on him being deleted in the past for not having any internet relevance. While there are a lot of existing pages that also fit that bill, we're being stricter on new pages. Basically, any news articles should be related to stuff like ED:LULZ. White•Mystery
  • Um, I'm probably gonna say no. Like it actually needs to be related to the internet, not with goofy humor or really reaching. If you want a good place to start, take a look at Encyclopedia Dramatica:Needed and see if anything piques your interest. White•Mystery

Hey man, not a problem. All you need to go is go to the link on the left hand side in the toolbox (second from the bottom, above Special Pages) labelled Upload file. Click that and it takes you to the upload form. You'll need to download whatever picture you want to upload to your local computer and then upload it from that form. Remember to use good filenames that make sense to someone searching for a picture - 4chan style file names are a bad idea. White•Mystery

[edit] Templates and Stuff

Hey, to make a template you put something in the template namespace and refer to the name with double curly brackets. That's basically all it takes. So for instance, if you wanted to make a template for people that like kittens, you would start the page Template:Kittens and then say {{kittens}} any time you wanted to use it. I'd recommend working on it in your userspace (i.e.User:Crazyconan/Template:Kittens) for now since we're in the process of cleaning up extra templates. I'll check out your article tomorrow, I'm looking forward to reading it. White•Mystery

  • You make it just like any normal wiki page, but you'll probably want to stick to established styles. Take a look at {{gayaward}} and {{drugfiend}} for some very different examples. White•Mystery
  • I think it's a good start - but you'll want to start experimenting with it to really distinguish it from other templates. We have a lot of templates right now that say "Hey, this guy's a fag." so you should either find and pick a topic we're short on, or really work on it and make it something outstanding. White•Mystery

However, as with everything that the internet touches, I bet there's some seriously fucked up stuff related to toonami out there. Off the top of my head, fanfics, fanart, online fandom stuff - whether of the robot from the intro scenes or shows playing on toonami. What direction have you been taking the article so far? You know, I've never actually played Earthbound, despite owning an SNES and having a rom for it on my computer. That's something I'll have to do, given all of the good things I've heard about it.

Anyway, we used to have an article on Earthbound, but it sucked ass, so it was deleted. Actually, it was deleted a few times. The gaming category needs to be kind of purged as it is, so I'm not sure if an article on Earthbound is really going to sit well with others, unless there's some kind of major recent controversy over it or something. However, you're more than welcome to work on it. I would do it in your userspace just to be safe, though. I'm sure you're capable of making a decent article on Earthbound, but it should probably be closely internet related if you choose to make it. If you'd like to see the old revisions of the article so that you know what not to do, I can give them to you. Looks pretty good, I'm sure people can find some uses for it. However, we already have a lot of "This user is <insert insult>" templates. One more won't hurt, but if the template list ever needs purged, it might get swept up with some other stuff. It'll be fine for now, but you might want to keep a copy of the code on hand in case anything happens to it. Anyway, it's a good start to template making. I still really don't mess too much with templates, since I usually fail at advanced html/css stuff.   • Live's been acting gay (not letting me connect half the time), and I've also been PC gaming lately. First...I cannot stress this enough DO NOT DOWNLOAD Firefox 3. That said, I use the 4chan plugin and the DownloadAll plugin on the last version of Firefox to dump big thread images in their entirety. As for the rest, the posts shown are just screencaps of threads that were in circulation. However, if it's a really good thread and you want to save everything and take screencaps later, just use Save As... (pick 'complete webpage') in the File pulldown menu.
