THIS IS SERIOUS; READ IT.

Congratulations on joining ED! You probably fit into one of these categories:

1. New User
Before making your first article look over ED:101. Try checking out random articles and fixing typos, grammar and/or bullshit where you find them before trying to make a new page. To start with, make multiple small edits to different articles until you have the hang of it. If you don't, it is unlikely that your article will survive for more than sixty seconds and you risk being molested by ED Sysops.
If you don't know anything about wiki formatting and code, please read ED:BASIC and the Style Guide. To start you off:


  • Sign your comments using four tildes (like this ~~~~)
  • To answer a message, reply on the user's talk page.
  • These are the sysops. If you have a problem, talk to them.
These tips will hopefully prevent you from getting raeped by the ED admins.


2. Mediawiki Migrant If you're an experienced wiki user (probably from a Wikipedia offshoot) who knows how to operate, please read ED:101 for offical policy and ED:MIGRANT for tips on assimilation and basic rules.


Whichever you are, to successfully contribute to ED, please take some time to look around, note why other people get banned and don't act like they did.

I may have overreacted, but I reverted your edit originally because I didn't think your additions were creepy. It sounds like you're trying to retell some scary campfire stories you heard once when you were little. They also don't match the direct address of most the existing creepypastas. All that probably wouldn't matter as much, but the page is already huge (I'm sure you noticed the size warning when you added your stuff.) I've re-removed The Unknown Passenger because it sucks. The reason that image was changed into pain series was that Reddit hot linked the image without a link back to ED or asking for permission, so User:ajt changed it to pain series on them. It's best not to revert his changes. He'll switch it back when he's ready. White•Mystery

Collapsing Question

The {{co}} and {{cs}} templates have a restricted set of characters which are allowed to be used since the content to be collapsed is passed as a template parameter. It's basically just more mediawiki faggotry that we have to deal with. If you want the absolute flexibility to put what you want inside the collapsing section, you should write out all the containers and tags by hand (like the first example on the CO page). If you want it to look like a collapsing section, just take the code off the {{cs}} template and use static values instead of template parameters. White•Mystery

We've been discussing the use of {{cg}} on the sysop's mailing list and after a little bit of refinement, we'll probably start using it officially for all collapsed galleries. Gaming Series Cleanup

I've started a very brief Age of Conan article to cover today's NDA breaking drama and shutdown of the Funcom forums. Series Template Shenanigans

Hey dude, I wanted to get your opinion on us moving to a bunch of series templates functionally like User:WhiteMystery/ytseries when we start creating portal pages. I'm not sure the current templates with 200 links on them are doing anyone any good. What do you think? White•Mystery

DCY and Zenophile are heading up the improvement drive for that category, with DCY being our new YouTube czar, so if you have any specific interest I'd say to give DCY a ring. Basically, the LHC will slam protons at tremendously high speeds (99.99999% of the speed of light), and will separate them on the subatomic particles. Then, the detectors will process the data and send them to the servers for examination via The Grid (The future rival of the Internets, long story short, if the internets is a series of tubes, The Grid is a series of light-made tubes).

They will pretty much confirm the existence of the quarks, and if they find the Higgs Boson, questions like "Why do objects have mass" will be answered. It will pretty much rewrite the physics books you read back in high school.

Recently, someone joined ED specifically to put my real name and other info on my ED article. They have made no posts since then. Seeing as I haven't been involved in any drama or even particularly active on LJ in years, I'm fairly certain it was someone I knew a few years ago who was just being malicious. There's really no potential for lulz here and no community involvement, just someone unrelated to LJ or ED attempting to use ED for their own purposes. Front page your new article! It's awesome! It's also a good chance to learn how to front page stuff:

  1. Go to ED:AON and make sure the article hasn't been featured recently.
  2. Go to ED:AOTN and find the next two open days, since AOTNs run for two days.
  3. Open up the links on those available days in other tabs.
  4. Follow the link at the top of ED:AOTN that takes you to ED:AotN/Instructions.
  5. Copy the ArticleNow template code to one of the blank pages.
  6. Change all of the information, picture, sizing, summary and (most important) date.
  7. Preview and save.
  8. Copy the info to the other blank page, change the date to whatever it is.
  9. Save.
  10. Update ED:AON with the name and first day's date of the article you just posted.

If it's urgent that an article gets front paged (like tfo putting Sceptre on the front page because he decided to start shit), you should do what tfo did and move the existing AOTN to the next two free days. They're a pain to set up so it's nice to save as many that have been completed as possible.

Give it a whirl when you're happy with the article and I'll make sure it turned out OK on the preview <3

  • Take a peek at the edit I just made. Besides being a fag and adding linebreaks for effect, you will also have to fool around with that height value multiple times before saving the page. You actually do not need to change the imagewidth parameter, but the height parameter directly effects the height of the whole box. You should start at 250px and bump it up by 20-25px incrementally until you can see the whole POTN and caption. When that's good, just copy the content, change the date to the next day, and save the next day's page unless the POTN is of a different size. White•Mystery
  • You got it! I forgot to mention that you should always check back whatever day the article is featured, because a lot of times the POTN is bigger than the default size of the template and you might have to adjust it a bit. White•Mystery

I understand, I will make a section on Asperger's/ Autism about rape. Thank you for suggesting the idea. Basically, somebody put me on their email list, I didn't want to be on it, I couldn't desubscribe, and they sent all emails out using the CC: vs. BCC: field, so my 'full name' and email were listed for everyone to see. I went on Gaia, found some people using that info, left a comment on each one: 'Hello (name), wassup...' and to the rest, used the invite system to send a message about how much W-finder sucks, it caused moral panic, it was funny, but they took it into the real world and followed me one afternoon, but that got dealt with. SunshineDuk has stated I wanted the article removed, btw, and I never stated that. Could you explain that to him please?

  • I actually tested that locally to make sure it works in the event that it fucks some stuff up, and you need it to undo its own contributions. For instance, if it gets triggered by a rollback-breaking vandal and you have something like:

You still have a broken page, so you would do:

and then run:
