Congratulations on joining ED! You probably fit into one of these categories:

1. New User

Before making your first article look over ED:101. Try checking out random articles and fixing typos, grammar and/or bullshit where you find them before trying to make a new page. To start with, make multiple small edits to different articles until you have the hang of it. If you don't, it is unlikely that your article will survive for more than sixty seconds and you risk being molested by ED Sysops.

If you don't know anything about wiki formatting and code, please read ED:BASIC and the Style Guide. Take your time and start slowly.

2. Mediawiki Migrant If you're an experienced wiki user (probably from a Wikipedia offshoot) who knows how to operate, please read ED:101 for offical policy and ED:MIGRANT for tips on assimilation and basic rules.

Whichever you are, to successfully contribute to ED, please take some time to look around, note why other people get banned and don't act like they did.

Communication with other users prevents misunderstandings and can be done through talk pages, TJC and the mailing list.

Oh man, you're asking the wrong person there! I know next to nothing about DA - I hadn't even heard of it before I came to ED and I'm so color blind that art has never been an interest of mine :) I think it's a good start, but we probably won't be able to completely prune it down until we have some ideas for the portal. I'd like to see the series templates become more like teasers, saying "here are the breakdowns of articles in this category, click on them to see the articles". Like if we broke it down into: Administrators • Events • Hangouts • Tartlets • Anonymous Spies.

My main motivation there, and I don't know if it's just me, is that when I see a series template with that many links I sort of look past it all because it's so much information to digest to find something that might appeal to me. Whereas if we broke it down into those major categories, I might be very interested in the Anonymous Spies and click the link to be taken to part of the portal that gives you a brief explanation of each and why I'd want to read the full article. Besides just personal preference, I've become increasingly frustrated with the general illiteracy of our users. I wonder if they can't manage to read a welcome message, are they using all of the information in a large template? How do you feel on that? White•Mystery

• I also should add that however we decide to do it, we won't roll out any new templates until the portals are done because of the fuckton of orphans it would create. So this is definitely a long term discussion and project. White•Mystery

There's stuff going on behind the scenes about continuing to host certain content that has no real Internets, few lulz and continues to provoke the kind of drama that is of the time wasting variety. At a certain point, we're going to have to re-evaluate huge chunks of content if we're to shake the "Hitler's Uncyclopedia" label we have in the meeja. I was talking to a couple of guys at GQ yesterday who are huge fans of ED. They confirmed what I've long suspected: we're the Internets' best kept secret. Hedgejew can you do us a favour, we want to keep the content on the DA Portal fresh and since DA really isn't my territory, I'd appreciate if you could act as a caretaker for the portal. Your responsibilities would be picking feature articles and featured as well as keeping an eye out for faggotry/vandalism. We want a constant rotation of FA's and Featured Art on a strict schedule of every 3 days. It's a bit of work but let me know if you'll do it and I'll unlock the subpages for you.
