Congratulations on joining ED! You probably fit into one of these categories:
- 1. New User
- Before making your first article look over ED:101. Try checking out random articles and fixing typos, grammar and/or bullshit where you find them before trying to make a new page. To start with, make multiple small edits to different articles until you have the hang of it. If you don't, it is unlikely that your article will survive for more than sixty seconds and you risk being molested by ED Sysops.
- If you don't know anything about wiki formatting and code, please read ED:BASIC and the Style Guide. To start you off:
- Sign your comments using four tildes (like this ~~~~)
- To answer a message, reply on the user's talk page.
- These are the sysops. If you have a problem, talk to them.
- 2. Mediawiki Migrant If you're an experienced wiki user (probably from a Wikipedia offshoot) who knows how to operate, please read ED:101 for offical policy and ED:MIGRANT for tips on assimilation and basic rules.
Whichever you are, to successfully contribute to ED, please take some time to look around, note why other people get banned and don't act like they did.
Communication with other users prevents misunderstandings and can be done through talk pages, TJC and the mailing list and ED IRC. If you need an admin, the list of active ED Sysops will let you know who's around. To chat with or to ask for help from other ED users, then please hit up the experts in #wiki on our IRC.
If you plan on sticking around, feel free to make your mark on the ED:Map and join the ED Facebook, the ED Myspace the ED Bebo and follow the ED Twitter. If that's not enough ED for you, feel free to join the all new ED Forums.

Hi, I'm deleting the page you just made. It reads like an Uncyclopedia article and has nothing to do with the internet or drama on the internet. White•Mystery
- I already did. I expect an article that's relevant to what this site is about. If you read ED:LULZ and Encyclopedia Dramatica:About, you'll see that ED exists to catalog factual information about drama and lulzy situations on the internet. While there are a lot of pages that exist currently that don't meet those goals, we are being much stricter on new content as we clear out old content that doesn't belong here. White•Mystery
- Please save me the trouble and create it in your user space (i.e. User:Kvn8907/Matt Damon) and we can move it IF it's relevant and only when it's more complete. If you recreate it as a normal article, especially with so little content and nothing relevant to what we want, I can promise you it will get deleted again. White•Mystery
- I genuinely hope you can make it lulzy and relevant. When you feel that it's ready, let me know - I'll take a look and move it back to the normal article space. White•Mystery

Long story short: a YouTube or two does not make an article Internets relevant. The Gerard Butler article was in the same vein, but since he has this rabid Internets fangirl posse (and cos of 300) he gets an article.
My advice is to root around for rabid Matt Damon fan sites and forums and controversy and then I'll help you bring it back.

- Yeah, this guy has uploaded fucking shitloads of LOLCATS from ICanHas. I keep seeing them in random articles, and it's pissing me off. Can we please delete all of these and ban him, or at least warn him not to do that anymore, or something? Keyboard Cat Has Been Moved To User:Kvn8907/Keyboard Cat.
Hey, you've made an article about Keyboard Cat that, unfortunately, doesn't meet our current standards. Please keep working on it here. Once you have worked on it, contact a sysop to see if you've improved it enough. If you don't know what to do, here are some tips:
- Do not recreate your article in the main namespace. Work on it here.
- Read ED:LULZ, ED:101, and ED:RR.
- Make it long enough to be worth reading (a few paragraphs, at least).
- Use headings and insert images.
- Link to a few sources. We appreciate embellishments, but frown on outright fabrications.
- Spare a few minutes and take a look at a tutorial written up by one of our seasoned writers. There's some great tips there that'll definitely improve your article making skills.
- If you require assistance beefing up your article, then hit up the experts in #wiki on our IRC.

Listen, if you've been following ED for a while now, you should realize why ops are pretty zealous on throwing stuff into userspaces. There are way too many shitty articles that come through and plenty of {{cat}} articles already. There are also plenty of unfunny articles in mainspace for varying reasons, some good, some bad, but throwing things into userspaces is important to maintaining the quality of ED.
If you want badly to get your article mainspaced and it's just not happening, just recruit the help of a sysop, established user, a personal friend on ED, a random person on ED IRC, etc. Throwing something into userspaces definitely does not mean its death. --Bryce - Talk to me!
