THIS IS SERIOUS; READ IT.

Congratulations on joining ED! You probably fit into one of these categories:

1. New User

Before making your first article look over ED:101. Try checking out random articles and fixing typos, grammar and/or bullshit where you find them before trying to make a new page. To start with, make multiple small edits to different articles until you have the hang of it. If you don't, it is unlikely that your article will survive for more than sixty seconds and you risk being molested by ED Sysops.

If you don't know anything about wiki formatting and code, please read ED:BASIC and the Style Guide. To start you off:

• Sign your comments using four tildes (like this ~~~~)
• To answer a message, reply on the user's talk page.
• These are the sysops. If you have a problem, talk to them.

These tips will hopefully prevent you from getting raeped by the ED admins.

2. Mediawiki Migrant If you're an experienced wiki user (probably from a Wikipedia offshoot) who knows how to operate, please read ED:101 for offical policy and ED:MIGRANT for tips on assimilation and basic rules.

Whichever you are, to successfully contribute to ED, please take some time to look around, note why other people get banned and don't act like they did.

Communication with other users prevents misunderstandings and can be done through talk pages, TJC and the mailing list and ED IRC. If you need an admin, the list of active ED Sysops will let you know who's around. To chat with or to ask for help from other ED users, then please hit up the experts in #wiki on our IRC.

If you plan on sticking around, feel free to make your mark on the ED:Map and join the ED Facebook, the ED Myspace the ED Bebo and follow the ED Twitter. If that's not enough ED for you, feel free to join the all new ED Forums.

Go for it. I'll thoroughly check it out later (I'm in the middle of an IRL project that's cutting into my ED time) but I'm familiar with the DC GoGo scene. I'm so old, I saw Trouble Funk play a New Year's gig in NYC in 1986...lollers.

If you don't feel up to the task of doing a whole article, you can make a start with a basic description, where the drama/lulz be at and put the {work} template on it. Then add it as an open task to Needed pages.

As for screenshots, you should have a function built into your machine (unless it's ancient). Iunno about Windohs OS shortcuts (search the knowledge database I guess) but on my Mac OSX 10.4.10 it's command+shift+3 for a full screen snap and command+shift+4 to select and snap. There's also a handy Dashboard Widget called Screenshot Plus.

Lol-cow

HAI. If it is a large article with lots of pieces to it, I really recommend you start here, and build it in that space until you're done. The worst thing possible is for the lol-cow to find his article before it is ready.

When I'm beginning an article, I usually sketch out what I want to include in it, check out the history of the Unrealistic Expectations article, the first version is just a paragraph with a bunch of section headings to begin with.

ED:Map

Agreed. I think people just do it cause it's on the welcome template. I don't mind if people sign up and only use their accounts every once in a while. That's how I used mine when I started. However, the ED:Map has become somewhat unreadable and shitty due to all of the unknowns and red-linked users. I could always take it off of the welcome template, but that's a pretty well established template and should probably only be changed after discussion with other sysops. • Yes good work. Actually, if you want to keep hacking you can go right ahead. What I was thinking (and I probably should have said this first) is that basically any red acct older than, say, 3 weeks should probably go. Basically if they haven't bothered to at least put something on their fucking userpage after that long, then they're probably not sticking round and just cluttering the list. The number of dead accts that end up on that page means it will probably need to be cleaned periodically.

Btw, have you dropped an app yet? We're looking for some new 'deputies' with partial admin powers, as well as possibly full sysops as well. Give it some thought. laters
