Congratulations on joining ED! You probably fit into one of these categories:

1. New User

Before making your first article look over ED:101. Try checking out random articles and fixing typos, grammar and/or bullshit where you find them before trying to make a new page. To start with, make multiple small edits to different articles until you have the hang of it. If you don't, it is unlikely that your article will survive for more than sixty seconds and you risk being molested by ED Sysops.

If you don't know anything about wiki formatting and code, please read ED:BASIC and the Style Guide. Take your time and start slowly.

2. Mediawiki Migrant If you're an experienced wiki user (probably from a Wikipedia offshoot) who knows how to operate, please read ED:101 for offical policy and ED:MIGRANT for tips on assimilation and basic rules.

Whichever you are, to successfully contribute to ED, please take some time to look around, note why other people get banned and don't act like they did.

Communication with other users prevents misunderstandings and can be done through talk pages, TJC and the mailing list.

If you plan on sticking around, feel free to make your mark on the ED:Map and join the ED Facebook, the ED Myspace and the ED Bebo.

• Since you're new here, I should take the time to fill you in on the things we're anal about.

1. No new categories unless you run them by a sysop. The bot enforces this, so even if you make new categories, they'll get removed in 30 minutes anyway.
2. When you make a new template, run it by one of the sysops before you start putting it on articles. We have a lot and there's a good chance it will be redundant.
3. All template names are in lower case with no spaces and when you make a new template and a sysop OK's it, put it on ED:T/All.

I saw what you said at the TJC. That wouldn't get sources that are primarily about ED to appear. What ED would really need is for someone to write a magazine article that is actually wholly about Encyclopedia Dramatica, which could appear in an internet/computing/technology magazine or similar, preferably with an online version to read as well. If at all possible, we (as in the sysops) would like to request that you hold off making any more attempts at getting the Wikipedia ED article restored. While we most certainly appreciate the effort, the fact of the matter remains that we are playing on their turf, and we will have to play by at least some of their rules. Today, an article SPECIFICALLY about ED was published in an Australian media outlet. This is a good first step and the kind of reliable source that we need to ensure that our article gets created and stays alive. This piece will bring more attention to us and the situation, hopefully providing more legitimate sources that could be used to fuel our argument for an article. Once we have a strong enough case that meets every one of their criteria for reliable sourcing, THEN we can talk further about the ED article.

This is not to say that your efforts and intentions have not been appreciated, because they are. You've opened some eyes about batshit insane admins like Sceptre and caused many of their sysops to stand back and rethink their ideas on accountability. You're a good writer and a smart person and we hope you'll continue your stay on ED. White•Mystery
