That is the second deletion by an ED sysop that I've disagreed with (the first being Amy Whinehouse). Whilst most crap non-internet relevant articles probably should be deleted and keeping out the articles about bands that people like for example is an important process in avoiding becoming like Uncyclopedia, there are some subjects that we just need to cover. Africa, and Amy Winehouse, are two of those subjects. You can put Africa in my userspace if you want if you don't feel like restoring it.--ByAppointmentTo 08:31, 15 April 2008 (CDT)

Therefore, I can see that these changes aren't necessarily permanent. However, I agree completely with ByAppointmentTo in this case. Forgive me if I overstep my boundaries by saying any of this, but what the holy living fuck are you doing? I can understand cleaning up and getting rid of shit like Fort Worth, TX, but Africa? Europe? The God damn United States? People come to this site for humor above internet drama. What the hell possessed you to wipe out so many good pages? Did you receive this order directly from Girlvinyl or something? I haven't been here as long as some, but didn't Encyclopedia Dramatica form as a result of Wikipedia being a bunch of overzealous dicks about their rules and not allowing an article on Mediacrat? At the risk of sounding like I'm on a soapbox, isn't that the exact same thing that you're doing right now? Who gives a shit if a country or continent is internet relevant? It's still a topic worthy of satire and people are going to come to the site to read about it. If you get rid of these articles, then you might as well kill half the content on the site. Fuck the rules. Or rewrite them, or something. Additionally, this whole matter seems very similar to this, and look how that turned out. - Looking at his deletion log for April 15, I'd say that a majority of those should be restored. Whilst not directly internet relevant, some of them are the places that internet users come from. Ever seen a "Roll Call" on /b/? Rules are made to be broken, and ED not having articles about some of the major locations is an example of anti-lulz - lulz is generated by mocking the inhabitants of the places and their culture and society, a very common thing on 4chan. Here's what I think ED's standards for places should be:
- No articles on individual cities, ever. Not even London or NYC.
- Articles on continents should be permissable, except Antarctica, because nobody lives there lol. So basically just Asia, Africa and Europe would be ones that would work.
- Articles on some countries should be allowed. Here's what I think we should have.
- Americas - USA, Canada, Mexico, Brazil
- Europe - UK, France, Germany, Italy, Poland, Russia, Scandinavia (must be all one article for the 5 countries), Netherlands, but Spain should redirect to Mexico and Portugal should redirect to Brazil
- Africa - individual countries there never merit their own ED articles
- Asia/Australasia - China, Japan, India, Australia
- We should also have articles about countries with wars and/or fucked-up governments. Therefore North Korea, Afghanistan, Iran and Iraq also merit articles (I won't extend it to Belarus or Zimbabwe - ED does not need articles on those.)
So I've got articles about places that ED needs articles about down to just:
Asia, Africa, Europe, USA, Canada, Mexico, Brazil, UK, France, Germany, Italy, Poland, Russia, Scandinavia, Netherlands, China, Japan, India, Australia, North Korea, Afghanistan, Iran, Iraq. I understand exactly why you are doing these deletions but isn't there some way to find a home for them? Some of them are srsly funny shit and a great waste if they never end up being seen again. Could there not be a separate category for miscellaneous, off-point or IRL articles? For some users that is the greater attraction here on ED, and whilst that is clearly not what ED is about, could they not be humored in a such way as to acknowledge their subordinate and auxiliary status? Then they could be around here somewhere for those that want them but out of the way for those that don't. They are handy for links and pipes in OL drama articles, in addition to their inherent qualities. After all, ED's stated objectives do include none internet-related articles that are nonetheless designed to cause maximum lulz and grievance to the relevant parties.
I know that you are against having these articles in the main body of ED, but could you pls raise this suggestion with the 'powers that be' as a solution that could work for everyone?
